I should call this blog "Well I Couldn't Have Been More Wrong..." Because I am about to give a PREDICTION ON PAVLIK-TAYLOR II.
A Middleweight slug fest that should produce a fight of the year candidate... unless of course Pavlik knocks him unconsious again and we ask ourselves, "Why did I just pay for that?"The hype comes from the question- Is Jermain Taylor the same fighter he once was? Taylor stumbled through recent fights even apologizing to fans at one point for poor performances. His work rate dropped and he looked sloppy. Pavlik was young and hungry and looking to make a name for himself. The only problem was that Pavlik has the charisma of a wet fart...an Ohio steel town wet fart I guess. I haven't even seen him on TV since his win and in all his training montages he has the same silly half-smirk have half-scowl that frankly confuses me. In the immortal words of Phil Hartman as Frank Sinatra, "Stop sneerin' at the crowd!" Taylor was flashy and disinterested and Pavlik was the hope from the ghetto. Sound familar? It should. It's the second 30 minutes of Rocky III. Clubber Lang mauled Rocky and everyone was impressed. So Pavlik mauls Taylor and now he's the man. Taylor has rejuvenated his training, dumped Hall of Fame trainer Manny Steward for some guy from his amateur days and ...if I'm to believe a tearful Jim Lampley (And I very often do) Taylor has found his greatest win in his only loss. He has won back his fans. Well his fans won't be the ones taking smashing right hands to the face so I think the lovefest ends when the bell goes ding! Taylor is talented and he will no doubt try to box Pavlik early and frustrate him...as if robots felt frustration. But Pavlik knocked Taylor out and Taylor almost knocked Pavlik out early. So he knows he can knock out Pavlik, but he'll be told to box him. Manny Steward said that when Taylor gets in the ring he turns to instinct not teaching. Taylor will not be able to live with himself with a dance around 12 round decision. His fans want a KO, he wants a KO and he knows he can do it. Jermaine, after all, wants to remain germane.
Eventually Taylor will slug it out with Pavlik who has a harder head and a better chin. Pavlik with a late round TKO. He'll weather flurries early and deliver bombs late. Pavlik 9th rd TKO
